My Digital Studio Video

I'm excited to share my first My Digital Studio video with you today. Yippie!! When I posted my Disney Album cover onto the My Digital Studio website the other day someone asked how did I get a "Disney Kit" to work with. This made me smile because we do not have one but our creativity can go a long way. A dear demonstrator friend of mine, Heather is one talented cookie when it comes to My Digital Studio. She has taught me COUNTLESS things with this program and one of them was creating a Mickey Mouse. When I further investigated other downloads and tools I had in my program I knew that creating a "Disney" album was going to be fun. The beauty of art is using your imagination and creating to your personal liking. I love using My Digital Studio because the sky is the limit with it. There are so many great things you can do with it.

Halloween Tree Decoration Tutorial

First I want to express my sincere sadness of the passing of Steve Jobs, Co-Founder of Apple. I've talked so much about the silly iPod the last few weeks and how grateful I am they replaced it for FREE. I cannot help but think how much this man will be missed by so many. He was a creative genius and changed our world in computers and electronics. I love Apple products and he has definitely changed my life for the better.

As I said the other day I would have a tutorial ready for you on how to make the Halloween Tree Decorations. I am so excited that day is TODAY! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays to stamp and every year I add a few new decorations to my tree and my Halloween display. Let me share my Halloween display as well as the tree.

What's fun about this display is the many memories that go along with the items made. So many of these fun decorations were made sitting with friends or even a class that I have taught. Every year it's a joy to pull out each decoration and put it on the display. What's better is adding more decorations. My display consists of a Bakers Rack that I change out every season. There is another project on my display I cannot wait to show you. It's a banner that I made with my friend Denise. We had so much fun creating it. I'll share much closer pics soon.

Pin Cushion Frame

I think it's fair to say I have Pin Cushion Mania going on. Holy cow. These little things are just addicting. It keeps getting better and better when you can find more and more ways to make them. I love them.

I put together a video to make the one with the Antique Frame I showed you yesterday. You can find these frames at any of your craft stores near you.

I mentioned yesterday I had a light bulb moment. I think my light bulb died during that moment because my cool idea did not work. I was hoping to make the backside look a little cleaner and you will see in the video it's not bad, but I am sure there is a way to make it better. I get frustrated when something doesn't go the way I had planned, but I am sure we all feel this way, right? LOL!

Here is another pin cushion using the Beau Chateau fabric. I love this one because you can see the chicken. Super pretty and vintage looking.

Hurricanes? Earthquakes? Next Please!

I don't think it's very often one can say they've been through a hurricane and an earthquake in the same week. Pure craziness but this is exactly what my kids are talking about to their friends. It's two NEW things they experienced and happy to tell you all about it. In fact they LOVE telling anyone how we slept in the basement bathroom through the hurricane. I am sure you laughing so let me explain. You could have a party in my basement bathroom it's so big. I have huge tree's in my backyard and the only thing I was concerned about with the hurricane was the tree's falling. To play it safe we took our air mattress and set up shop in the potty. Very convienent I might add. We had everything we needed. We woke up the next day and our clean up consisted of a few leaves on the ground. VERY thankful. Many of my East Coast friends have not been so lucky. Some are still without power. Some have tree's in their pools or on their homes. Hurricanes are not something to mess with and while this area may not have taken a beating I was quite surprised how lax they were in the preps. To me, safety is the key. If you read the reports on the news concerning the deaths that have occured, most were from tree's falling. Very sad. Let's hope our East Coast friends get their lives back to normal soon and I'm ready to take on the next thing please! Preferably DRAMA free!

Meanwhile on the ranch I've been busy getting back to what I love the most. Stamping! Since the kids are getting ready to go back to school it's time for me to go back to business. Believe it or not my Alexis is the driving force of me going back to work. She wants to know when her stamping friends are coming back? WOW! This could be her gentle way of telling me to get our of her face. *smile* I've put classes on the books and excited to see my customers again. It seems like forever that I held a class.

During the hurricane (or leaf blowing event) I was able to get a little stamping in. The new Holiday Mini goes live in just a few days. I can't wait. This mini catalog is super fun with lots of great stamping toys to entertain you for months. One of the projects I finished was actually a Make n Take project from convention this Summer. Yes, I'm a slacker. Not only that I screwed the whole thing up. This is what I get for not READING the directions. This project was supposed to be made using the beautiful Timeless Portrait Fabric. Not so much for me. Since I cut my fabric completely wrong I had to do a switch a roo and use the Spice Cake Fabric that is coming out in the Holiday Mini. Oh how you will love this fabric!!! Take a peek of my finished project. I really like these boxes which are also available on September 1st.

Then I made this card using the Spice Cake Designer Series paper and the Gently Falling stamp set. Love this two step stamp! This was made for a swap I did with my team. They are fantastic stampers.

Time to get back to work. I have a busy day ahead.

Spring Blossoms Tutorial-FREE!

It's a happy day today! I know I've been MIA for awhile but we are fine. I'll explain all our news in a later post. It's been a bit busy around our house with Spring Break! Whoo Hooo!

I can't thank you enough for your patience in waiting for the FREE class tutorial using the Four Frames stamp set and Paisley Prints DSP. I think it's a cute and easy project. It will make a great gift for May Day or Mother's Day. I'm not quite sure I understand May Day yet. I looked online and there are so many different countries that celebrate it and then it became a little confusing to me. If it's just a day to give someone something you made I think it has to be a GREAT day! Without any further waiting…

The first photo is the Card Holder. This is so simple! At the end of the post you will see the document to download with instructions and you will see a short video (shortest I've EVER done!) on how to make this.

These next four cards fit perfectly inside the Card Holder. These are Note Card size but the Card Holder fits full size cards. WOW, isn't that fun?

Take a Nature Walk

Walking may be the only form of exercise I would consider. I know, pretty pathetic but completely the truth. The thought of a workout almost exhausts me and lately that says a lot since I seem to be in that exhaustive state EVERY day. Pure exhaustion, really! I'm not exactly sure what is going on. I normally do not feel like this. The nurse in me says "see what happens in a few days" and if I don't "feel" better I will get it checked out. Considering the stress, I think it's normal. So… back to the exercise and walking. I'm thinking about putting a walking routine into my daily schedule. I think most of my girlfriends reading this probably just fell on the floor. Go ahead and pick yourselves up. You did read that correctly. I'm going to start WALKING! A good nature walk would be great for my mind.

Speaking of Nature Walk, the stamp set Nature Walk is really one of my favorite stamp sets in the Spring Mini. Okay, so all of the sets are my favorite! You know how much I love birds and the bird in this stamp set is just beautiful. This set has lots of great possibilities. Here is my card:

The cool technique with this card is I used one of my CLEAR blocks as a STAMP! Yes, isn't that cool? Who knew? One of my demonstrators on my team used this technique on a card and I just loved it.

I learned a few tips along the way of making this card. Let me share.

TIPS: First, I used my Clear Block D and stamped it onto the Very Vanilla cardstock using Crumb Cake ink. The tip is to make sure when stamping with the Clear Block you are stamping on a hard surface. For instance, if you are using a plastic craft table, this technique does not really work. The table gives when you push down to stamp and then your image is not clear. It's very spotty. Actually, it's FLAT UGLY! To avoid this happening, stamp the Clear Block on a hard surface. Works like a champ.

This happens to be the card I was going to video and show you the technique in action…we'll blame it on the kids for the reason it's not done.

This was a super fast card to make with very few layers but the images produce that WOW factor. I really like it. Below you will find the materials I used for the card and you can find all the supplies to make this in my Online Store.

Spring is Here!

From the looks of the weather around the U.S. not everyone is experiencing Spring like weather. Here in Northern Virginia the weather has been pretty Spring like and the Cherry Blossom Tree's are starting to bloom. To look back one year ago I came here to house hunt with the kids over Spring Break. It doesn't feel possible that it's already been a year. Time is ticking fast.

Today I wanted to share a nice Spring card that showcases the great Watercolor Crayons again. I love to watercolor because it's so relaxing. There are times though that I don't have a lot of time to sit and watercolor. Today's technique is perfect for this. Let me show you.

This technique is when you take the Watercolor Crayon directly to the rubber stamp and then spritz some water (or your Stampin' Mist in my case) over the image and then you stamp it. This creates a watercolor effect and really looks beautiful. The technique is easy and works SUPER great with solid images like the one above from the stamp set Just Believe. I've created a video for you so you can re-create this technique. Whoo Hoo!

Supplies Used:

Stamps: Just Believe

Cardstock: Regal Rose, Rose Red, Garden Green, Confetti White

Ink: Basic Black, Old Olive, Garden Green

Come Dance with Me!

Maybe we're not really dancin', but we are Two Steppin'. Two Step Stampin' that is!! Here is another embarrassing fact-o about me- It's been forever since I've used a Two Step stamp. Then once I pulled it out and played with it again I fell in love all over. My workshop hostess wanted me to show a Two Step stamp and I loved this because it made me Two Step. Ha! It's SO nice having clear stamps to make this technique much easier. If you do not own Clear stamps then you can use a Stamp-a-ma-Jig with your wood stamps to make the process seamless.

I used the Awash with Flowers stamp set:

When this stamp set came out it was not on my favorite list. After I made this simple card, it's totally on it! I plan to mass produce this one!!

I started this card using Naturals Ivory cardstock as my card base. I cut another piece of Naturals Ivory 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 and ran it through my Big Shot using the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder. Using this embossing folder gave me plenty of room to stamp in the center of the frame. I stamped the stems in Old Olive ink. I stamped the first solid floral image on the right using Daffodil Delight ink. The second floral image I used a Rock n Roll technique. Stamp your Daffodil Delight first and then roll the edges of the inked image in Pumpkin Pie. Ohhhh Wee… already it's looking pretty. Now comes the Two Steppin'. Take the floral outline images and stamp them over the solid floral images using Tangerine Tango.

Using a background stamp like En Francais, ink it up using the Daffodil Delight and lightly press the stamp over the stamped floral images. Because you are stamping this over the Textured Embossed area the impression is hit and miss and gives this card a really nice vintage feel.

Stamp your banner using the sentiment from the Blessed Mother stamp set. Punch a Decorative Label using the Decorative Label punch from the Newsprint Designer Series Paper. Snail this onto your card from in the bottom right corner. Adhere your banner over this. Add a Daffodil Delight button to your banner using a Mini Glue Dot and your card is complete.

Again, it's as simple card but one I'm super pleased with. You can find all the supplies to make this card by checking out my Online Store. Make sure you check the Clearance Rack from time to time, too!

Time to Perk Up!

The other day I asked if you had a stamp set that you haven't used in awhile. One that you were SO in love with but it's sat on your stamp room shelf being neglected. This really made me think about a few sitting on my own shelf. Morning Cup was one of the first stamp sets I had to have when the new catalog came out. I was so excited about having a coffee set. Funny how this set has just collected dust. I pulled this stamp set out last night and had a BLAST. What's even better is I created a video making this card because I had a Watercoloring Trick discovery. Whooo Hoooo!!! I was so excited at 11pm last night and no one was here to celebrate with. WHAT a bummer!! I shared my excitement with you on my Video!! I hope you don't mind.
