This Color Combination Could Be Tough

This Color Combination Could Be Tough

I’ve been sifting through a few color combinations trying to change up things as I create.

Do you ever find yourself using the same colors all the time?

I don’t notice it right away until all of a sudden I look at the pile of cardstock scraps near my desk and think to myself… WOW.  The same colors are used frequently.

One of my favorite Pinterest boards I have and pin to frequently is my Color Combinations board.  You can see it here.  It’s LOADED with colors.

I decided to pull a color off my ink shelf that has barely been used.  In fact I think it’s been used ONCE.  EEK.

Cucumber Crush is not on my favorite list of colors but I love a good challenge and wanted to see what colors I could pair it up with.  I thought it would be fun to challenge you too!

Ready for a weekend challenge?

Cucumber Crush -Color Combination

Color Combination, Apple of my Eye, Stampin' Up!

Are you thinking SUMMER? That’s what I instantly thought of when I looked at these four colors together.  It screams summer.

I thought of citrus, watermelon, and swimsuits to be honest.

Here is what I created using this combination.

Color Combination, Apple of my Eye, Stampin' Up!

The Apple of My Eye stamp set was top of my list.  Think lemons, limes, oranges and sweet slice of watermelon.  YUM.

Color Combination, Apple of my Eye, Stampin' Up!

Tips & Tricks

  • Stamp the round citrus image in all four colors onto Whisper White cardstock.
  • Punch using the 1-1/2 or 1-3/4 Circle Punch and then cut in half.
  • Create a tag using Crumb Cake cardstock and the Ornate Tag Topper punch
  • Attach the Citrus halves to the tag using Snail Adhesive and alternating with dimensionals.
  • Add a Gold Foil Doily for a little extra punch of color.

Confession Time….

You are not going to believe this…

As I was typing this I was looking to see what size punch I used for the citrus image. I noticed the Idea Book & Catalog states to use the 1-1/2 circle punch.

Quick thought to myself was… “Silly Stampin’ Up!  We don’t have a 1-1/2″ Circle Punch!”

Then I flipped to the pages filled with our punches.

OH MY GOSH…..

WE DO have a 1-1/2″ Circle punch.

We’ve had this since JUNE!!! Where I have been??? How did I miss this???

Just when you think you know everything in the catalog- BOOM! You don’t.

Friends… You know what I’m ordering ASAP?

Yes. That. Punch!

Sigh…

Color Combination, Apple of my Eye, Stampin' Up!

Here is the good thing.  I managed well with the 1-3/4″ Circle Punch but I know the 1-1/2″ Circle punch is going to be AMAZING for layering.  Oh the opportunities I have missed.

It’s a good thing this is Friday.  It’s been a crazy week of crazy and I’m ending my Friday on a great note knowing that I have another tool coming my way.

Celebrating a Teenager!

Celebrating a Teenager!

Can it be that my baby is really a teenager?

A few weeks ago I told you we were working on invitations for Alexis and I’m super excited to share.

I have to admit that Stampin’ Up! saved the day once again.  The new Occasions catalog had the perfect stamp set to work with- Number of Years!

Celebrating a Teenager, Number of Years, Stampin' Up!

Handmade Happiness

There has not been one year that my princess has not had a handmade invitation.  That’s truth.  She was only 6 months old when I started my journey with Stampin’ Up! and she’s had a handmade invitation ever since.

The only thing I have to deal with now is her approval of the actual invite but I love that she is part of the creative process with me.

Celebrating a Teenager, Number of Years, Stampin' Up!

Turning 13 is a BIG deal.  How soon I had forgotten but she has reminded me daily.

Once Alexis had the colors picked out it was my turn to make it happen.  I think we did okay, what do you think?

You might be thinking to yourself, “Stitching?” Are you for real?

Stitching on cards with a sewing machine is SUPER easy and FAST.  It’s what keeps my elements on the card together and it’s a straight stitch.  Honestly, you can’t screw it up.  I have a regular home sewing machine I believe I bought at JoAnn’s many years back and it works like a dream.

I love how the stitching pulls the ribbon and numbers together and keeps them nice and tidy.

Creating a Party Favor

Celebrating a Teenager, Number of Years, Stampin' Up!

Tips and Tricks-

  • Not only was the invitation easy to create this year so was the party favor.  This adorable Pyramid Box was perfect for her to put a small trinket inside.  Utilizing all the colors she had picked out and of course adding the big “13” made my girls eyes light up.  She is a star at 13! I used the Little Number Thinlits on the box to create the 13.  I love both the letters and number Thinlits.  They are perfect for any project.
  • I used Filter Paper on the front of the box along with a die from the Pyramid Pals Thinlits to create the frayed look.  Once I had all the layers cut from the Filter Paper I used the Tombow Multipurpose Glue to keep it intact.
  • I cut the 1-1/4″ Bermuda Bay Striped Grosgrain Ribbon in half with my Ribbon Scissors and was able to use for both the card and box.
  • The Cutie Pie Thinlit was used to create the Old Olive scallop border at the bottom of the card.
  • I used the Mini Treat Bag Thinlit to create the star border on the party favor.
  • The wooden arrow element was used from the Memories in the Making Project Life Accessory Pack.  You can switch out the wooden arrow with the wooden heart making 6 cards from one pack.  Then use the remaining contents to create fun Project Life album from the event.

I encourage you to look at ways you can create handmade for any celebration.  Not only does it make it special it’s a fun process to get family involved to create with you.  Mothers, Grandmothers alike can enjoy the paper crafting together making memories along the way.

Below you will see all the supplies I used to create both projects.

Color Inspiration- Have You Tried This?

Color Inspiration

Color Inspiration is one of my biggest puzzle pieces when I sit down to create.

Once I know the stamp set I’m going to work with I love to go through my ink pads and play with the colors to see what I can come up with.  I like to browse my Pinterest Board of color as well, but sometimes it’s just as easy to sit some colors in front of me and see what’s calling my name.

My card today is way out of my normal color wheel and I hope you will try these colors on a project yourself.  I love how the Mint Macaron looks with the Blackberry Bliss and the Crumb Cake ALWAYS goes with everything.

Color Inspiration, Balloon Builders stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Create it!

If you are a fan of balloons, the stamp set Balloon Builders is for you.  There are tons and tons of balloon animals you can create with this set but lazy me kept it pretty simple…

Wait for it…

Yes.  I stamped a plain balloon.

Color Inspiration, Balloon Builders stamp set, Stampin' Up!

I started to get crazy but here is the problem….

Ya know the noises that the balloons make when the clown is making the animal balloons? It freaks me out.

Just thinking about the clown (not a fan) and then the twisting of the balloons….. AHHHHH! FREAK OUT.

I stamped a plain balloon and I kinda like it.

The greeting is perfect for my teenage girl.  I thought it described her to a tee.  This will be a great card for her friends birthdays that are upcoming.  Teenagers, College students… this is a perfect set for them.

Color Inspiration, Balloon Builders stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Tips and Tricks

I stamped most of the balloons directly onto the Typeset Designer Paper and a few I stamped onto a scrap piece of the Typeset and punched using the Balloon Bouquet Punch. How fun is THAT?

I added a Linen Thread bow onto the main balloon and stuck a piece of Linen Thread behind the balloon to create the string for it.

The sequins came from the Love Blossoms Embellishment kit.  I love the colors of these sequins and they give off a purple hue when next to the Blackberry Bliss ink.  I stamped the balloon with the greeting onto Very Vanilla so I could make the greeting pop a little more than it being on the Typeset DSP.

Start Planning for Easter!

Start Planning for Easter!

As crafters we are already looking ahead to the next holiday to see what we can create next.  Another beautiful holiday is approaching- Easter.

What are your top things you love to make for Easter? Do you have a DIY project on your radar?

I have the solution for a fast DIY 3-D project today.

Paper sour cream containers never get old.  They are easy to make, perfect to hold a treat and kids can get involved making them.

Carrot, Sour Cream container, Easter Papercrafts

My favorite part of this Carrot was creating the top using my Fringe Scissors and Filter Paper by Stampin’ Up!

Carrot, Sour Cream container, Easter Papercrafts
Create It!

  •  Cut your cardstock or Designer paper to  4 x 6.  Fold like a toilet paper roll and adhere with a strong adhesive. I recommend Fast Fuse.
  • Seal one of the ends of your toilet paper roll with Fast Fuse.  You will want to fill your container with a special treat.  Chocolate always wins in my house.
  • Take 2 round Neutral Filter Papers and fold in half twice. Using Fringe scissors cut the Filter paper.  Fold the Filter Paper again making it extra fluffy.  Just stop to admire this.  Seriously, it’s cute at this point and we haven’t finished.
  • Tuck your Filter paper into the top of the sour cream container and staple it shut.
  • Create your tag.  Cut a banner using the Banner framelits and Whisper White cardstock.  Stamp an Easter Greeting using the For Peeps’ Sake clear stamp set.  (Click on the link to see just how CUTE this set is!)  Great set for Chalk Art cards OR because you need it for Peeps’ sake!
  • Staple the tag onto the sour cream container and you are finished.

Bokeh Technique & Mardi Gras

Bokeh Technique & Mardi Gras

We celebrated big time this weekend!  It’s a celebration we typically do not celebrate and if I’m honest (which I will be) I’m not sure I understand the entire celebration…. Mardi Gras.

So we’ve never been to a Mardi Gras parade before but decided this weekend we would see what it’s all about.  Let’s just say I caught a few beads!

Bokeh Technique & Mardi GrasI’ve never seen anything like it.  Tons of beads being thrown off floats.  Moon Pies thrown in my face.  Stuffed animals, cups, trinkets… all being thrown.  We each came home with a ton of loot and a TON of beads.  I’m still not sure exactly what we celebrated except we had a great time as a family.  There were a few things I could of NOT seen and let’s just say I had a bit of explaining to do when we got to our car.  This is a BIG party and there are people who will do ANYTHING for beads.  I think Alexis summed it up best… “those girls are disgusting, mom!”  Yes. I’m proud.  Again, it was a fun time.

In other news I have a fun card to share.  Hope to have a video to go with this card SOON. I’m waiting on a piece of equipment to help my video process since I upgraded my phone last month.  Should be in this week and I’ll be in video mode once again.

Bokeh Technique

Typically I don’t do many techniques.  I loved this technique because I love it in photography.  When you can achieve bokeh in a photograph its AWESOME.  How exciting for a card that you can create?

Bokeh Technique, Simply Wonderful
This was a card we created in club this past week.  SO FUN! It’s a pop of color and lots of fun layers.  I love the result.

Bokeh Technique, Simply Wonderful
I’m sure it doesn’t matter how many colors you choose to use but for my card I chose 3.  Coastal Cabana, Hello Honey and Pistachio Pudding.  I love these colors for spring.

Bokeh Technique, Simply Wonderful
You can only see a hint of a new product I used but I have to tell you about.  It’s the Birthday Bash Designer Washi Sheets. It’s a big ole Washi Tape that you can cut, punch, or die cut the way you want.  I love it.  You can see a strip I used under my die cut stars.  It was just a sliver but I loved seeing it through the negative space of the stars.  PERFECT.

The stamp set is the Simply Wonderful stamp set from Sale-a-Bration.  Great fonts are in this perfect greeting set.  I loved this greeting because it’s playful and thankful.  Place an Online Order in my store of $50 and this set can be yours FREE.

I hope your weekend was spectacular.  It’s a long weekend for us thanks to Presidents Day.  For all my northern friends… stay warm. I’ve been thinking of you with all the cold and snow.  YIKES.

XOXOXO
