Celebrating a Teenager!

Celebrating a Teenager!

Can it be that my baby is really a teenager?

A few weeks ago I told you we were working on invitations for Alexis and I’m super excited to share.

I have to admit that Stampin’ Up! saved the day once again.  The new Occasions catalog had the perfect stamp set to work with- Number of Years!

Handmade Happiness

There has not been one year that my princess has not had a handmade invitation.  That’s truth.  She was only 6 months old when I started my journey with Stampin’ Up! and she’s had a handmade invitation ever since.

The only thing I have to deal with now is her approval of the actual invite but I love that she is part of the creative process with me.

Turning 13 is a BIG deal.  How soon I had forgotten but she has reminded me daily.

Once Alexis had the colors picked out it was my turn to make it happen.  I think we did okay, what do you think?

You might be thinking to yourself, “Stitching?” Are you for real?

Stitching on cards with a sewing machine is SUPER easy and FAST.  It’s what keeps my elements on the card together and it’s a straight stitch.  Honestly, you can’t screw it up.  I have a regular home sewing machine I believe I bought at JoAnn’s many years back and it works like a dream.

I love how the stitching pulls the ribbon and numbers together and keeps them nice and tidy.

Creating a Party Favor

Celebrating a Teenager, Number of Years, Stampin' Up!

Tips and Tricks-

  • Not only was the invitation easy to create this year so was the party favor.  This adorable Pyramid Box was perfect for her to put a small trinket inside.  Utilizing all the colors she had picked out and of course adding the big “13” made my girls eyes light up.  She is a star at 13! I used the Little Number Thinlits on the box to create the 13.  I love both the letters and number Thinlits.  They are perfect for any project.
  • I used Filter Paper on the front of the box along with a die from the Pyramid Pals Thinlits to create the frayed look.  Once I had all the layers cut from the Filter Paper I used the Tombow Multipurpose Glue to keep it intact.
  • I cut the 1-1/4″ Bermuda Bay Striped Grosgrain Ribbon in half with my Ribbon Scissors and was able to use for both the card and box.
  • The Cutie Pie Thinlit was used to create the Old Olive scallop border at the bottom of the card.
  • I used the Mini Treat Bag Thinlit to create the star border on the party favor.
  • The wooden arrow element was used from the Memories in the Making Project Life Accessory Pack.  You can switch out the wooden arrow with the wooden heart making 6 cards from one pack.  Then use the remaining contents to create fun Project Life album from the event.

I encourage you to look at ways you can create handmade for any celebration.  Not only does it make it special it’s a fun process to get family involved to create with you.  Mothers, Grandmothers alike can enjoy the paper crafting together making memories along the way.

Below you will see all the supplies I used to create both projects.

Monday Blues? Have a Party!

Monday Blues? Have a Party!

Monday blues got you down? Maybe it’s time we have a party!

Although I work from home and I’m the boss I could essentially make everyday feel like a Friday, right?

Not really.  My Monday is just like most of yours.  Alarm goes off, hit the snooze a few times and roll out of the bed with the worst possible bed hair EVER.

I drag myself to the coffee pot and yawn 100x until the first cup is ready to pour.  Alexis is talking non stop to me and I’m catching every other word she says as I’m still half asleep.

First sip of that coffee and BAM, I’m officially awake.

Monday blues are not typical for me as I love the fresh start to the week.  It’s refreshing.  It’s new.  It’s my attitude.  It’s like a party.  It’s all what I make of it.

Maybe we should think of Monday’s as a big ole party.   All we need is cake!

Today’s share makes me giggle because I love the greeting.  It’s fun and perfect for a party or birthday.

Party Wishes

Monday Blues, Party Wishes, Stampin' Up!

Any party needs some CAKE and this fantastic Designer Paper, It’s My Party.

This is by far one of my favorite Designer Series Paper in the Occasions catalog. This paper fits ANY celebration!

Monday Blues, Party Wishes, Stampin' Up!

I love how all of the designs coordinate with each other yet it’s not all “party” related.  You could use these patterns and designs on any card.

Tips & Tricks

  • I layered 4 pieces of the Designer Paper together with each piece off set slightly.
  • The scallop border you see comes from the EDGE of the Striped Scallop Thinlits.  I had used the die cut on another card and seen this piece just laying on my big shot.  If you heard a scream it was ME.  I love scallops and love adding them to my cards.  It doesn’t matter the size, I love them.
  • The cake was stamped twice, once in Basic Black for the cake stand and once again for the actual cake.  I stamped the cake using Daffodil Delight.  This is an easy fussy cut.  Then popped it up using dimensionals.
  • The circle was cut using the Circles Framelits.
  • Can you spot the doily? It was like a addiction… I had to sneak it in.  Just a very tiny piece…
  • The candle was punched using the new Party Punch Pack! LOVE the simplicity when using this bundle.  See product links below.

Monday Blues, Party Wishes, Stampin' Up!

This Occasions catalog is bursting with celebration stamps to meet the needs of Birthday, Anniversary’s and many more celebrations.

I added a bit of Gold Metallic Thread behind the circle for a bit more pizzaz.

Monday Blues, Party Wishes, Stampin' Up!

I hope this card brightens your Monday instead of having the Monday blues.   I’ve now finished a few cups of coffee, can see the entire screen clear and I’m ready to make this great week happen.  How about you?

The big question… what is your morning GO TO drink? Coffee? Tea? Soda? I’d love to know.

Rockin’ my Girl’s world!

This weekend I rocked my little girls world by getting her birthday invitations completed.  As if trying to get Christmas cards completed, addressed, licked and mailed isn't enough… I added 10 more cards onto my list of to do's.  I admit that I rocked my own world because I actually got them done.  Yahooo! Now I have to figure out what we are doing for the party, address them, lick them and get them out the door too.  Jeesh!

Anyhoo- Alexis picked out the stamp set Grunge Rock #120555 to be used for the invites. I love this set.  It's screams little girl and I went to town. Funny how she "approved" the card design once I had it complete.  In years past that was never an issue.  The pains of growing up with a little Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and don't tell her she's NOT! <sigh>

Here is the design:

I used a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock for the base and the card size is Notecard- 5 x 7 folded in half.  I love this size.  I added my favorite DSP in the whole world (todays pick) called Love Letter and then the accents on top are from the Grunge Rock stamp set and the Broadsheet Alphabet.  Do you love that alphabet?  I used the Family Phrases stamp set #114960 for the "You're Invited."  Love this cute set.  Lots of punches were used.  You can never use to many!

I better get in the bed before I regret my lack of sleep in the morning.  Another busy day ahead.  Errands, kids parties at school and then I must get a little stamp therapy in.  I had none today as I was addressing all 200 of my Christmas cards.  They are going POSTAL tomorrow! Yippie!!!
