Pattern Paper- Do You Use it?

Pattern Paper- Do You Use it?

Pattern Paper is something I typically hoard for years.  Even better is the hoarding takes on a this beautiful organization in my craft room where it sits on beautiful paper racks and looks GORGEOUS  on them.  Then the thought of using it comes to mind only for me to say “Okay, but just this tiny piece!”

You know this is true since you come here and visit my blog.  You see it.  Or… let’s just say you DON’T see it.

I have GOOD intentions friends! I pull it out and then BOOM- I have no clue how to incorporate the pattern paper into a project.

I’ve tried to be more mindful of my lack of use with the new Occasions catalog but I’m noticing quickly I’m stuck in the same pattern.  I pull it out, look at it.. stuff it back onto it’s pretty place and then it gets no use.

Can anyone relate to this craziness?

This Occasions catalog I am in love with two of the patterns offered.  One is my absolute favorite- Birthday Boutique and the other is the It’s My Party designer paper.  Both have great patterns and lots of coordinating colors to work with.

Tuesday Tip

Today’s tip is pretty simple.

In fact, it might be something you already do but could be a reminder for us to do more.

Pattern Paper, Rose Wonder, Stampin' Up!

I am not one to stamp on my pattern paper.  Ever.  I had some scraps sitting on my stamp table and it so happens it was this beautiful striped piece from the Birthday Boutique Designer Paper.

Was in a stamping rut when I had stamped two filigree images onto the Whisper White and wasn’t sure where else to go with this card.  Once I saw the designer paper sitting there I grabbed it and decided to stamp the Easter greeting from the Rose Wonder stamp set.  I love the fonts in this greeting and was surprised how well this came out.

What do you think?

I added a little ribbon under the pattern paper and then a doily at the top and keep this in place with a simple staple.

The only thing left to add was a few White Perfect Accents.  The card is then layered onto the Blushing Bride twice and then onto the card base of Whisper White Thick cardstock.

Again, this could be something you do all the time but for me, it’s NEW.  It’s a great way to take a stab at the pounds of pattern papers I have sitting pretty and just maybe I can make a dent into my hoarding obsession.  OR I can continue to hoard the paper and pretend I’m using it.  Either way, it’s pretty to look at and it makes me happy.

Do you have a product that you hoard besides stamps or paper? What’s your obsession? I’d love to hear.

Sweet Little Lamb- Artisan Blog Hop

Sweet Little Easter Lamb- Artisan Blog Hop

Easter Lamb…. and it’s time for another Artisan Blog Hop where the inspiration and creativity is about to explode.

It’s always exciting to see what 20 global demonstrators can create.

Easter Lamb

By far one of the cutest little single stamps in the Occasions catalog, and could get missed.  This sweet little lamb can be found on page 24 of your Occasions catalog.  I love that this sweet little lamb can also be used outside of the Easter for cards such as new babies, or for younger children.

Is this the cutest little guy you have ever seen? Simple, yet sweet.  Love that combination.

Tips & Tricks

I pulled a few hat tricks for this card.  Let me share so you can also re-create this yourself.  It’s not hard at all.

  • The black banner and the white circle die cut came from the You’re So Lovely Project Kit.  The die cuts in this kit are stunning and there is a ton of goodness wrapped up in that kit.  I loved the banner and it fit perfectly for the greeting.
  • The black filigree behind the lamb comes from the First Sight stamp set.  I stamped onto Vellum using VersaMark and then covered with Black Embossing Powder.  Make sure to use your Embossing Buddy to get rid of any static especially when working with Vellum.
  • The lamb was stamped using Black Archival ink and a simple Blending Pen to color the face, ears and legs.
  • I placed Vellum over my Typeset Designer Paper to give it a softer look.

I used my favorite cardstock for the base of my card- Kraft Paper.  Ohhhh Weeee.  I love that cardstock.  Perfect for ANY project and comes in 12 x 12.

Once again the Birthday Bouquet Designer Paper was a perfect combination to use for this card.  I love the stripes of this particular pattern.

Imagine the possibilities with this sketch.  Take the lamb out and put in your favorite image.  There are lots of opportunities for this card.

I’d love to hear your feedback.  What do you think?

Think Spring- Backyard Basics

It’s time to think Spring with the Backyard Basics stamp set!

The weather wasn’t very cooperative yesterday for many of my stamping friends.  This winter has been a rough one and even for this Florida girl.  I’ve been colder than I really like.  I hope today’s card brings you a little sunshine.

Color & Cut

Backyard Basics is a stamp set that truly takes the ease of cutting it yourself away.  With the coordinating framelits the work is complete for you giving you time to cut more and create more.

Once my images were stamped on Naturals White cardstock I did a quick watercolor using an Aqua Painter and ink pad.  I then put my images through my Big Shot using the coordinating Backyard Basics framelits.

Creating a Unique Background

To create this unique background that the egg and birdie rest upon I used the Deco Labels Collection framelits and the Hexagon Hive Thinlits Die.

  • First cut the Deco Label Framelit using Naturals White cardstock.
  • Using a piece of 4 x 4 piece of Naturals White cardstock, use the Hexagon Hive Thinlit to create your background.  Run this same piece again through the Big Shot using the SAME Deco Label Framelit you used the first time.
  • Layer your Hexagon Hive pattern on top of the Deco Label using dimensionals on the non open Hexagons.

To finish this card I added a few strips of Daffodil Delight cardstock banner strips and Lace ribbon.  Using the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set, I created my Happy Easter banner.  I added a tiny gold scallop strip using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border and Gold Foil.  I love this small detail of Gold on this card.

Easter Photography Ideas

Looking for Easter Photography Ideas.. I have a few to help you.

After going through a bunch of Easter pictures and layouts I noticed there was a common theme that I was scrapbooking. I’m sure you will know exactly what I’m talking about . . . coloring eggs, bunny baskets, kids hunting eggs, finding the golden egg.

Easter Photography, My Digital Studio, Digital Scrapbooking

For this layout I wanted to take a different approach AND a different photography scene. I decided to use three photos that were more silly than usual. The pictures were playful so I wanted to keep the layout just that—playful. I love that My Digital Studio has lots of fun digital art that worked perfect for my layout.

I did a lot of searching through my downloads to find paper patterns I thought would work with an Easter theme and loved recoloring them to match my layout. This is such a great tool in MDS.

One of my favorite things I added to this layout was the chicken wire overlay from Bunch of Backgrounds, and then I decreased the opacity so it wasn’t too bright to overshadow my other elements.

For the Easter eggs in the bottom right corner, I used the patterned egg from Easter Blossoms. I placed a Very Vanilla egg from Celebrate Easter behind each decorative egg to make the colors pop a little more.

Another fun digital art piece I added was the Paper Doilies. When placing them on your layout, make sure you adjust the drop shadow so that you can really see the paper doilies pop off the page. With just a little shadow under the doilies you can really get extensive texture for your layout or project. I love how real these look.

I can’t wait to create more digital Easter layouts this year while keeping in mind a few different photography shots to change things up a bit.

Easter Photography Ideas

Here are a few out of the box ideas to think of when photographing Easter shots:

  • Pics of the Easter shoes your kids wear
  • Easter décor in your home
  • Just the child’s hands decorating the eggs
  • Easter morning routine
  • Church you attend Easter morning
  • Easter traditions
  • The Perfect Outfit
  • Easter Sunrise

Easter Bunny and Gift Card

Happy Friday!  The kids Spring Break is ZOOMING by and Easter has crept up on me so fast that I had a little panic last night.  Of course I'm NOT prepared at all and this should surprise NO one.  I'll be the lady zipping through all the isles quickly to find last minute Easter things to fill my kids baskets.  Happens every year.

Since the kids are getting older and I would love to keep the baskets with LESS candy in them I decided I would make them each a little bunny card with an iTunes Card inside for them.
