Be Inspired-Favorite Celebration

Be Inspired-Favorite Celebration

Favorite Celebration, Stampin' Up!

Is it hard to think about a favorite celebration? When I sat and thought about this, I thought about all of the great parties we’ve had in our home.  I’d say the reality of our favorite celebrations boils down to everyday life.  We celebrate the littlest things along with the big.

I can’t say that I’ve thought this way all my life. In fact, it took Russ having a stroke for me to even think about how short our lives are and how we should celebrate every day.

Today, I’m going to share a birthday card because that is where it all begins for us.

Celebrating Life

I should probably tell you right off the bat that when it comes to celebrating birthday’s, I kind of suck at it.  I’ve longed to be THAT mom who goes over the top with birthday decorations, amazing birthday cakes, and parties that everyone talks about for days.

That’s not me.

Never has been.

Instead, I’m the mom who:

  • Puts together something last minute.
  • I’m typically the mom running to the grocery store grabbing the cake 30 minutes before the friends and family start arriving.
  • Yes, I’m the mom who waits until the very last minute to send all invites and sometimes it’s a phone call invitation.
  • My birthday decor is quite shameful, but somehow my family enjoys it.
  • I’m even the mom who has forgotten to make a card, and instead of making something super unique and personal, I grab something from the “already created” box.

While I’m not the award winning party planner, the party remains fun, my kids never complain and regardless of the card being personal or “already created” they always love my handmade card with a personal message inside.  That’s my “WIN!”

Happy Birthday, Friend

Birthday Celebration, Be Inspired, Stampin' Up!

When I started this card, I was in a colorful mood.  I had an idea of the colors I wanted to use which included Lemon Lime Twist, and Fresh Fig. I love how these two colors look together.  However, adding the third color became a bit more challenging until I put the Calypso Coral next to them.  I loved how this looked together.

Tips & Tricks

Birthday Celebration, Be Inspired, Stampin' Up!

  • I used the Happy Birthday Thinlits with Watercolor Paper then watercolored the die cut using Lemon Lime Twist and my Aqua Painter.  Tip: Wet the entire die cut with your Aqua Painter first, then add your ink color of choice.  Adding the water first makes the blending of the ink and water beautiful every single time.
  • To create the square, I used the Stitched Shapes Framelits largest square.  Then I watercolored the die cut using Calypso Coral ink and an Aqua Painter.  Tip: Add drops of ink to the square, then using a Heat Tool, move the water around to create a unique look.
  • I stapled the Linen Thread, die cut and Delicate White Doily together to help keep in place.  I used one tiny glue dot on the Happy Birthday die cut to help it lay down flat.

Birthday Celebration, Be Inspired, Stampin' Up!

  • Attach the happy birthday layer to a piece of Fresh Fig (2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″) at a slight angle.
  • One of my favorite greeting stamp sets is Thoughtful Banners.  The Thoughtful Banners is a great set that includes so many greeting choices.  Once all of my layers were attached, I stamped the friend greeting using Basic Black ink.

The Finished Product

I love how this turned out, and it will make it into my basket of created birthday cards.  They are always great to have on hand, and from the looks of my basket, I need to start sending some.

Don’t forget to add a little touch of pizzaz to your card by using the NEW Glitter Enamel Dots.  I love the colors, and they coordinate with so many of our Stampin’ Up! colors.

Be Inspired

I hope I’ve inspired you in a few ways today.  First, it’s totally okay being a non-party planner.  Kids and adults are still going to have a magnificent time.  Second, I hope this card inspires you not only to create but also to step outside your usual color combinations.  I would love to hear what your favorite celebration is.  Enlighten me if party planning is your thing.  I could use the help.

Favorite Color, Stampin' Up!

I love a good challenge and today’s Be Inspired blog hop definitely was a CHALLANGE for me.  Our Be Inspired Team put together today’s theme, our favorite color.  At first I was completely stumped.  I love so many colors it was hard to settle on just one.

I gave this a lot of thought and decided to thumb through my blog and see what color stood out most over the last few weeks.  Lemon Lime Twist was hands down a winner.

Every time I looked at a card made with the Lemon Lime Twist my heart skipped a beat.  So today, that is the color I will choose.

Hello Lemon-Lime Twist

Favorite Color, Pieces & Patterns, Stampin' Up!

I decided to go full on Lemon Lime Twist using the cardstock, designer series paper and ink.  Oh my! It was a little slice of heaven having all of these products together.

The products I used is a new release available June 1st from the Pick a Pattern Suite.  This suite includes the stamp set Pieces & Patterns, Designer Series Paper, Washi Tape, and Electic Shaped Paper Clips.

Tips & Tricks

Favorite Color, Pieces & Patterns, Stampin' Up!

  • I used a new embossing folder called Oh My Stars.  I love how playful this embossing folder is and it will coordinate with so many great stamp sets.
  • The large piece of pattern paper is from the Eastern Palace Suite called Eastern Palace Specialty Designer Series Paper.  When you purchase this bundle now, you will receive this gorgeous designer series paper.  Click HERE to see the bundles available until May 31st and get a free gift with purchase.
  • I added another layer of designer series paper (black & white pattern) from the Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper.  I love how this paper added a stark contrast to the card.

Favorite Color, Pieces & Patterns, Stampin' Up!

  • When I stamped the greeting I was so excited when the Stitched Shapes Framelits fit perfectly around the greeting.  I added another scallop die cut underneath the stitched circle using the Layering Circles Dies.
  • To create a little pop of color, I added a small strip of Bermuda Bay cardstock punched using the Ticker Tear Border. I love the little bitty scallop it creates.
  • Lastly, I added a few of my favorite embellishments like the Delicate White Doily and a small piece of Black 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon.

Tutorials, Stampin' Up!

Make today GREAT and stamp something pretty.

Urban Underground, Creation Station, Stampin' Up!

I’m quite aware that the Occasions catalog will be coming to an end soon. There are so many products I need to play with.   One product I haven’t used enough and I’m quite giddy over is the Urban Underground Suite.  I love the paper especially.  It has an eclectic feel, and the blacks, grays, and silver are perfect to use with any color of my choosing.

Today I’m sharing a card using the Urban Underground Suite.  I realize some of these products are discontinued. I hope you will be inspired by not only the products but the design elements of the card as well.

Today’s blog hop will also inspire you with a more masculine style for projects.

So Eclectic!

Urban Underground, Creation Station, Stampin' Up!

One of the things I was drawn to with the Urban Underground Suite is the fun patterns in all of the products.  The pattern paper is by far my favorite.  Because I planned to use this card for one of my Fathers day cards, I kept with a blue color tone for my card. Maybe I should have made the Prince a pink one…  I’m sure he would still enjoy it.

Urban Underground, Creation Station, Stampin' Up!

As the transition of catalogs happens over the next month, my FAVORITE thing is mixing retired and new products together.  I used a new thinlits for this card called Seasonal Layers.  Honestly, I’ve already worn this die cut OUT.  I love the scallop die cut within this Thinlits set.  You can see the scallop I added to this card on the left side.  It’s hard to see because it was die cut using Basic Black cardstock.

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few tips when creating this card.

Urban Underground, Creation Station, Stampin' Up!

  • I ran the small strip of Urban Underground DSP through my Big Shot using the Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  To get a deeper impression try spritzing your paper with water first, then run through your Big Shot.
  • The Urban Underground Embellishments are self-adhesive. There is a total of 24 in a package, 8 each of 3 designs.  Truly a fun embellishment to add to any man card you desire.
  • The card front layer includes both designer series paper and the Urban Underground Washi Tape.  The Washi Tape is perfect for coordinating with the designs of the DSP.

Think Outside the Box

One last thought I will add to this product suite, it doesn’t have to be all about the man.  I think when we see products built around each other or especially with certain color choices, we tend to think it’s only for one gender.  I can see so many great ways the designer series paper can be used for very girlie cards.  Don’t forget, the stamp set can be used outside of Father’s day too.

Great news…The Urban District stamp set is on SALE… only $15.20 until the end of May.

Bold Bright Eastern Palace Suite

Bold Bright Eastern Palace Suite

Although I see very cloudy skies outside, I see bold brights inside.  Join me today for a fun Artisan Blog Hop where I’m sharing a fun Bold Bright Eastern Palace Suite card.  I’m SO happy with these cards and the inspiration from the Artisans.

Bold Bright Eastern Palace Suite, Stampin' Up!, Eastern Beauty

Watercoloring with Shimmer White Cardstock

When I placed these bold, bright colors together, I felt like they made a bold statement.  The colors just pop off the card.

One thing important to note on this card is my use of Shimmer White Cardstock.  I love how the shimmer shows through the water coloring.  It’s hard to see this in a photo, but I promise it’s there.

Tips & Tricks

I have many fun tips when creating this card.

  • The bold colors I used for this card are Bermuda Bay, Berry Burst, and Lemon Lime Twist.  I stamped each of the flowers using Archival Basic Black ink then watercolored using an Aqua Painter.

Bold Bright Eastern Palace Suite, Stampin' Up!, Eastern Beauty

  • One of my favorite elements on this card is the layer of the Gold Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate that I die cut using the Layering Circles Framelits which I placed under the greeting.  Confession,  I hoard my Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate.  It’s so pretty that I let it sit.  This design element was inspired by one of my fellow Artisans.  I’ve looked for the last 30 minutes trying to find the actual card and who created it, but I can’t find it.  It’s such a fun addition.

Bold Bright Eastern Palace Suite, Stampin' Up!, Eastern Beauty

  • I’m in love with the greetings in the Eastern Beauty stamp set.  Not only are they great greetings, the fonts are amazing.  I watercolored using Berry Burst ink onto Shimmer White Cardstock and then stamped my greeting.  Then I die cut the greeting using the Stitched Shapes Framelits.
  • I added the gold flowers from the Eastern Gold Vinyl Stickers around the watercolored flowers.

Bold Bright Eastern Palace Suite, Stampin' Up!, Eastern Beauty

Bold & Bright with Watercolor Paper

I continued working with the same bold, bright colors for my second card, but this time I used Watercolor Paper.

Bold Bright Eastern Palace Suite, Stampin' Up!, Eastern Beauty

Tips & Tricks

Bold Bright Eastern Palace Suite, Stampin' Up!, Eastern Beauty

  • I stamped the flowers using Archival Basic Black onto Watercolor Paper, then watercolored using my Aqua Painter. It was easier to add splatter over the flowers before attaching them to the card front.  Once they were watercolored and splattered, I die cut using the Eastern Medallion Thinlits.
  • Each of the die cut flowers was attached with Mini Glue Dots to the top half of the card.  The Mini Glue Dots adds a slight and perfect dimension to the flowers.

Bold Bright Eastern Palace Suite, Stampin' Up!, Eastern Beauty

  • I added the gold star stickers from the Eastern Gold Vinyl Stickers. I placed a gold Metallic Enamel Shape into the center of each of the stickers.
  • Lastly, I stamped the greeting onto Watercolor Paper then die cut using the smallest circle from the Stitched Shapes. I placed Linen Thread under the greeting.

Shimmer & Pizzaz

May Tutorial Bundle Blog Hop

One of the things I’ve been using a lot with the Eastern Palace Bundle is the Shimmer White Cardstock.  I love how this cardstock looks when you watercolor.

Once I added the Lemon Lime Twist Ink watercolored over the medallion, it was love at first sight.  The picture never does Shimmer paper any justice because you cannot see the shimmer in the photo.  I promise it’s shimmery and beautiful.

Tips & Tricks

Here are a few tips when creating this card:

  • I created the medallion by stacking the largest circle from the Layering Circles Framelits along with the Eastern Medallion Thinlits Dies using Shimmer White Cardstock.  The Eastern Medallion dies stack so beautifully together.  I also die cut another large layering circle using Whisper White cardstock.
  • Once I watercolored the medallion using my Aqua Painter and Lemon Lime Twist Ink, I layered it over the Circle die cut.  I found using a sponge dauber with Tombow Multipurpose glue to be most effective to keep the medallion adhered to the Whisper White cardstock.  I simply placed a small dab of the glue onto a sponge dauber, then dabbed over the back of the medallion.  It worked like a charm.
  • To keep the label with the greeting in place along with the twine, I used a staple.

May Tutorial Bundle Blog Hop

  • Creating the card front I stamped the 3 main circle images along with the star design in the center of each circle.  I love how the Fresh Fig, Dapper Denim and Lemon Lime Twist Ink coordinate together.
  • Lastly, don’t forget to add a little pizzaz to your medallion by using the Basic Rhinestones.  I love how this created attention to this intricate medallion.
